NServiceBus.Newtonsoft.Json 5.0.2 – Patch release available

Hi everyone,

We’ve just released NServiceBus.Newtonsoft.Json 5.0.2.

Fixed bugs

  • #753 Messages without the NServiceBus.EnclosedMessageTypes header fail to deserialize on NServiceBus 10

How to know if you are affected

You are affected if all of the following apply:

  • You use NServiceBus 10.x with NServiceBus.Newtonsoft.Json 5.0.0 or 5.0.1.
  • You configure TypeNameHandling as Auto or All.
  • You receive messages without the NServiceBus.EnclosedMessageTypes header and rely on $type in the body to identify the message type.

This typically occurs in native integration, where a non-NServiceBus sender writes to the queue. Messages that include the header are not affected.

Symptoms

Affected messages go straight to the error queue without reaching a handler. The exception is MessageDeserializationException, with an inner ArgumentNullException stating “Value cannot be null. (Parameter ‘source’)”.

When to upgrade

If you are affected and have no workaround (see Confirmed Workarounds) in place, upgrade to restore message processing. Otherwise, upgrade during your next maintenance window.

After upgrading, retry affected messages from the error queue.

Where to get it

You can install NServiceBus.Newtonsoft.Json 5.0.2 from NuGet.

Please read our release policy for more details.
